Brass Monkey Stanthorpe Rodeo's "iconic" return
Rodeo returns to Brass Monkey

Rodeos are a strong drawcard for our region and the upcoming Stanthorpe Quality Meats Brass Monkey Stanthorpe Rodeo is no exception. Stanthorpe Agricultural Society Rodeo Sub Committee Treasurer and all-round superb event organiser, Paula Boatfield told our newspaper that plans for the May 31 showcase are "coming together very nicely".
"We are grateful for all the sponsors who have decided to support the rodeo this year," she said. "Their contributions are invaluable. We have all our logistics in place. We have a variety of stallholders coming this year. We are finalising our kid's activities and other forms of entertainment. At the moment we are in the middle of our working bees preparing the grounds for one of the most iconic events on the Stanthorpe entertainment calendar."
Asked the committee's "hopes" for the event, the first is for suitable weather for everyone's enjoyment and that attendance matches what's experienced. Locals may not know that the timing, and more, differs this year. "This year the Stanthorpe Quality Meats Brass Monkey Stanthorpe Rodeo differs from previous rodeos in several ways," Paula continued. "Initially the change of date (to May 31), where it won't clash with rodeos or shows in our neighbouring towns, and it is a bit cooler for everyone. "(And) this year's event will also have more kid's activities with the hobby horse race, face painting and jumping castle to keep the little ones entertained. Also we are being joined by Dayna Bradshaw and the Cowgirls with Wings team who will entertain us with trick riding feats during the breaks. "We have also introduced a line of brass monkey related merchandise with key rings, stickers, hoodies, sox, stubby coolers, soft toys, biscuits and lapel pins for sale at the merchandise tent."The final difference will be the placement of our fabulous fire pits around the grounds to keep everyone toasty warm after the sun sets."
What's on Paula's personal wish list? That's "seeing the smiling faces on our rodeo goers' faces as they enjoy the thrills and spills of the riders striving for that win". She reminds attendees to "bring a jumper for themselves and their horses," adding, "We're sure their horse would appreciate the warmth of a rug at night."
