Ollie Palmer flew from Christchurch in New Zealand to win the men’s Pentathrun on the Southern Downs. “I have always wanted to compete in the Pentathrun, it was better than I expected,” Palmer said. “The best leg was the half marathon to Yangan.” He was pushed hardest by Corey Rodriquez in the Mile at Allman Park Racecourse.
There were record numbers for the Pentathrun which moved to Stanthorpe for the first time for a run on the airstrip. Palmer completed the marathon distance five events in two hours, 29 minutes, 13 seconds. Ladies winner Julia Farquhar won in 3.10.54.
Warwick State High School student Elliza Moore Kirkland said she was surprised by her performance in winning the mile for ladies. “I usually only run 400m and 800m and do a bit of hurdling,” she said.
