Most motorists reckon they’ve been dodging potholes and road works vehicles on the Cunningham Highway for the last 20 years or so, but apparently it is the current government that is intent on really fixing things up.

In an announcement made by the Minister for Transport Brent Mickelberg last week, the state government says that all the previous work was nothing but “patch-ups and under investment” and that now the road is “finally receiving the long-term rehabilitation it needs to be safer, smoother and more reliable”.

To no one’s surprise, works will be delivered in stages, “with priority given to the most damaged sections, following extensive assessments” between Tregony and Gladfield. The state government describes this tranche as “major rehabilitation”.

Member for the Southern Downs James lister thanked the Crisafulli Government and Minister Mickelberg for visiting the region and looking at the roads “firsthand”. He promises that “these works are genuine long-term repairs, not patch-ups.”

“The upgrades will fix the underlying drainage and stability issues as well as cut down on the vehicle damage we’ve all been dealing with because of the deteriorated road surface.”

Freight operators and all the drivers trailing them from say thank you.
